Xin chΓ o! Welcome to my first blog, everyone!

My name is Linh Hoang, and I am a freshman majoring in English Education at Florida State University. I am a part of the University Honors Program. I am from Vietnam, a wonderful country with friendly people and breath-taking scenery (come and visit my country after COVID-19). I am an ambivert, and I enjoy listening to music, especially K-pop and piano covers, and watching dramas, movies, and TV shows. I also love learning foreign languages; in fact, I am self-learning Korean and French! After my graduation, I will return to my hometown and become an English teacher for Vietnamese learners of all ages and backgrounds!

I have been using my laptop for school projects since junior high. I started learning how to use Word, Excel, and Powerpoint during 7th grade to write essays, produce simple presentations, and track data worksheets. I also used laptops, computers, and phones to search information on Google or check my daily To-do list. Nowadays, due to the pandemic, I frequently use emails, messages, Face-time, Zoom, etc. on my laptop to chat with friends and family members, as well as to communicate with teachers via these online platforms. I always had a difficult time dealing with new technologies and applications at first; however, I got used to them after several weeks of practicing so I hope that I will also be able to overcome technological obstacles to gain some new skills that may help me succeed I the future!

For my personal learning network, I usually use social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) to get connected to the world by reading news across all fields, and learning some educational tips through others' posts. My friends and I often create group chats via Messenger and GroupMe to discuss our projects and share our research information. I also join in private student groups on Facebook to get updates news and notification regarding college life. Personally, I prefer browsing things online (on the Internet and schools' digital libraries) so I don't have many experiences looking for learning resources offline. However, I do believe that offline resources are also great tools for student to navigate through their college career.

  2. Hi Linh! That is so amazing that you are self learning French and Korean- I do not think I could do that, so go you! I use social media to communicate with friends and family, too. I think it is great that you join groups to stay in touch with things happening in college. I think that is so awesome that you want to become an English teacher and I know you said you want to teach for all ages, but is there a certain age group you hope to teach if you have the option? Good luck on all of your classes this year!

  3. Hello Linh! Your post looks amazing! I love the use of colors, emojis, and even a picture! I admire your career aspirations and can tell that you are going to be a wonderful teacher someday! I can definitely relate to your comment about struggling with new technologies often, I am the same way oftentimes. Hopefully this class will help us to overcome those struggles! I wish you all the best of luck this semester!

  4. Hi Linh, amazing first blog post! I think you will be an excellent English teacher in the future because you seem so motivated. I would imagine that teaching yourself a new language isn't easy, yet you are doing it twice! I also find it a bit difficult to adapt to using new technologies when I'm first introduced to them, so I completely understand where you're coming from. I look forward to reading your blog posts in the future!
