Regarding Copyright and Fair Use...
Copyright is the protection of a person's intellectual, creative work and/or property. The owner has the right to use his or her work freely on all platforms, while others must be given permission or provide credits to the author. As stated in the Copyright Act of 1976, the Fair Use guidelines grant users reasonable purposes of copying materials, such as for non-profit educational intentions. How and how much of the original work can be used determine the level of fair use. As a future teacher, when creating lessons and class materials, I may place a copyright symbol or a watermark on my intellectual and creative works to prevent them from being taken without consent. I will also educate my students on Copyright and Fair Use and show them ways to have their own compositions copyrighted.

Discussing technology implementation issues...
Cyberbullying is, in my opinion, one of the most concerning problems among internet citizens nowadays. Since we practice the right of speech in America and stay anonymous while being active on social media, anyone can express their feelings and thoughts openly. Some internet users take advantage of these facts to post negative comments and threats towards others or to upload someone's embarrassing pictures online. If my students get involved in cyberbullying as victims, I will teach them how to block the bullies and report abusive messages to social media providers and developers and have them solve the problem. Discussing the issue with adults and teachers to let them know about the problem is also a way to avoid cyberbullying. Or, students can just simply ignore and stay away from online platforms for a while. Academic dishonesty is another technology-related matter. Students sharing or collaborating works with friends online or taking works on the internet without citation are some of the most common violations of plagiarism. To prevent these acts, I will guide students, as soon as possible, on how to cite sources and check for unintentional infringement of copyright. I may ask my students to share their work with me and have them do their assignments in class to monitor their progress.

New skills acquired from Newsletter assignment...
After creating a newsletter, I have learned how to add hyperlinks and insert pictures on a Word document. I previously stated that I was not really familiar with Word because I had been using Google Docs and Mac's Page over my high school career and just got back to Word. Hence, I am getting used to Word again and exploring all of Word's tools while doing the assignment. Controlling spaces and columns is the hardest part for me —every time I move a picture or a WordArt around, I would have to adjust my articles and other objects to make the newsletter seem balanced. I will probably practice doing newsletters and watch tutorials on Youtube to learn some more cool tips for designing e-newsletters. This task is a to-do job for future teachers as they need to contact students' parents and families to discuss class progress and plans.
I finished my assignment earlier today, and here is a screenshot of my newsletter. Leave a comment below to let me know how you think about my work!

Hi Linnie! I feel the same way about cyberbullying and academic dishonesty. Cyberbullying has become a huge issue in today's society. Technology makes it very easy to post information about someone else or comments towards someone else without the emotion attached to it because it is behind a computer screen. Academic dishonesty is also a rising issue in society due to the fact that education is becoming more reliant on technology. I really enjoyed reading your blog and looking at your newsletter! it looks awesome and it is very evident that you put a lot of time and effort into it! I look forward to reading your next blog :)
ReplyDeleteHello Linnie! Let me just start off by saying that your design for your blog is absolutely incredible! This looks great! You know what else also looks great? Your newsletter! Its amazing, you did a fantastic job! I thought I did a pretty good job on mine, then I saw yours, which is so far and above mine that I now feel as if my own is adequate at best!
ReplyDeleteI agree that cyberbullying is one of the biggest issues kids face today, but the solution is not as easy as reporting the incident or blocking it out. For many students, they may fear that reporting it will lead to more bullying. We need to reduce the stigma around reporting online harrassment, but this information should not go through us as the educators. If a student is getting bullied online taking the situation into our own hands may make the situation worse. Cyberbullying cannot just be blocked out. Its not easy for a student to just turn of their device to avoid the situation or just ignore the bullying. The things students read stick with them, and the internet is absolutely everywhere. We live in an internet connected world, that is the reality. We can't just expect students to disconnect from that world to avoid harrassment. Students being isolated from social media or the internet is not a solution to cyberbullying, but a result of the cyberbullying itself. Students should not be bullied off of the internet.
I also discussed academic dishonesty in my blog, and you touched on something that I did not. Students need to be taught on the importance of making citations and how they should be made. Plaguarism is very easy to avoid, but for new researches and writers it can be a easy trap to accidentally fall to that we as educators seem to have little tolerance for. Citations are a necessary skill for higher level education and there needs to be an emphasis on them.
I enjoyed reading your blog very much! Have a wonderful day! :)
Hi Linnie, I really enjoyed your third blog post! Although I chose to highlight a different issue that technology may bring to the classroom, I agree that cyberbullying is extremely concerning today. As an educator, I would want to protect my students from this to the best of my ability. I included academic dishonesty in my post as well, and agree that it is important for teachers to teach their students about plagiarism early on. Great job on your newsletter! I like how you added a section about yourself so that the parents can get a sense of who you are. I also struggled with the spacing of my newsletter, so that is something I hope to improve on. Once again, great job!
ReplyDeleteAs a teacher, do you always want to protect all your creative works or share them with other teachers under CCL? Recently, more and more researchers consider publishing their research findings through open access journals in order to share their findings freely with other researchers and practitioners. As soon as we leave FSU, we lose our access our library and cannot download any important articles. What do you think?
